Will my information be confidential?

Only the researchers and abortion service health practitioners will have access to your identifiable information for the purpose of completing the study.

To make sure your personal information remains confidential, a study ID will be used rather than your name, and information that could identify you will not be included in any data analysis or report generated by the research team. The findings of the study may be published or presented, but not in a form that would reasonably be expected to identify you.

Your information will be held securely by the University of Auckland during the study.

Will my GP be informed of my study participation?

Only if you wish this to take place.

Can I use a urine test from the pharmacy?

No. The urine tests used for following up after an early medical abortion (EMA) are low sensitivity urine tests, which is a specal kind of urine test. The pregnancy tests available over the counter are high sensitivty and will provide inaccurate results following an EMA. Please contact your local Mate Whenua research nurse for a replacement test if you have lost yours.

I've lost my urine test. What do I do?

You can receive another test, please contact your local Mate Whenua research nurse to arrange receiving a new test.
